This spring, DEC in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, began a ten-year experimental reintroduction of cisco into the New York portion of Lake Erie to determine if they can survive to adulthood in the lake as it exists today. The initial stocking of 90,000 yearlings this May occurred offshore of Dunkirk, NY. The results of this work will help inform future cisco rehabilitation decisions in New York and elsewhere.
