Lake Michigan Reef Evaluation and Prioritization

Taylor Skiles (Michigan DNR), Matt Herbert (The Nature Conservancy), and Dave Clapp (The Nature Conservancy) presented their work on “Northern Lake Michigan Reef Evaluation and Prioritization.” The project mapped several Lake Michigan reefs and conducted standardized assessments to characterize physical habitat, invasive species, and fish use. Their findings can provide insights to managers for prioritization of reefs for protection, restoration (e.g., sediment or mussel removal), or further investigation based on habitat quality, AIS abundance, and egg deposition.
